Beyond the Diagnosis
A 12-week coaching program for caregivers learning to live alongside diabetes.
A diabetes diagnosis is a lot of new information delivered very quickly. Endocrinology appointments, meter readings, carb counts, insulin ratios, school 504 plans, sick day rules. By the time you get home, the binder is heavy and the questions are heavier.
This program is for the part that comes next.
Beyond the Diagnosis is a 12-week coaching program for caregivers who have the medical information and now need help building a real life around it. Together we work through the gap between what the medical team told you and what actually happens at the kitchen table, in the carpool line, at sleepovers, and in the middle of the night.
I'm Alex. I've lived with Type 1 diabetes for 37+ years. I'm a Registered Nurse with an MSN, and before that I spent more than a decade as a funeral director walking with families through some of the hardest decisions of their lives. I bring all three to this work: the clinical knowledge, the lived experience of what it actually feels like to manage diabetes day after day, and the grief-informed presence that hard diagnoses deserve.
This program is for you if:
- You are a parent of a child recently diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and the overwhelm is real
- You are a foster parent newly placed with a child who has diabetes and you need to come up to speed quickly and gently
- You are a professional caregiver supporting adults with diabetes in a group home or community setting
- You have all the medical information and still feel like you're flying blind in real life
Across 12 weeks, we will work on:
- Building family routines that hold up on hard days
- Translating medical instructions into language your child, your family, and your support people can actually use
- Preparing for the real moments — sick days, growth spurts, school events, sleepovers, holidays, sports, friendships
- Holding space for the grief, fear, and frustration that come with the diagnosis (yours and your child's)
- Building a list of the right questions to take back to your medical team
- Creating a co-parenting or co-caregiving plan that works across households or shifts
- Understanding co-occurring diagnoses and how they interact
- Finding your own confident, steady voice as the person leading your family through this
What you get:
- Twelve 60-minute 1:1 sessions, delivered virtually
- A personalized care integration plan you build with Alex over the course of the program
- Between-session email support for the moments that come up between calls
- A standing list of questions to bring to your next endocrinology appointment
Investment: $1,800 ($2,400 if billed as individual sessions) USD for the full 12-week program.
Note: This program is coaching and education, not medical care. It does not replace your medical team. Alex works alongside your endocrinologist, pediatrician, and care team to help you implement their guidance in your real life.
